Noida Airport Conducts Major Aircraft Turnaround Exercise Ahead of Opening

Noida Airport News
Noida International Airport (NIA) has successfully completed a full-scale aircraft turnaround trial, marking another major milestone ahead of the airport’s commercial launch scheduled for June 15, 2026. The exercise was conducted as part of the airport’s Operational Readiness, Activation and Transition (ORAT) programme, which is designed to test the efficiency of airport operations before passenger services begin.
The turnaround trial simulated the complete ground handling process that an aircraft undergoes between arrival and departure. During the exercise, airport authorities tested critical operations such as passenger boarding and deboarding, baggage handling, aircraft servicing, fueling coordination, security procedures, and ground support activities. The objective was to ensure that all systems, personnel, and service providers work together seamlessly in a real-world operating environment.
The successful completion of the trial demonstrates that Noida International Airport is progressing steadily toward operational readiness. Airport officials described the exercise as a crucial step in validating procedures and identifying any potential operational challenges before commercial flights commence. Such trials are standard practice at major airports worldwide and help ensure safe, efficient, and reliable passenger services from day one.
The airport has already achieved several important milestones in recent months, including takeoff and landing validations, security clearances, and regulatory approvals. Earlier tests confirmed the readiness of the runway, air navigation systems, air traffic control infrastructure, and other essential airport facilities.
Commercial operations at Noida International Airport are expected to begin on June 15, with domestic passenger services initially led by IndiGo. Other airlines, including Akasa Air and Air India Express, are also expected to start operations shortly after the airport opens. The airport is being developed as a major aviation gateway for Delhi-NCR and western Uttar Pradesh, helping ease congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport while boosting regional connectivity.
Once operational, the first phase of the airport will be capable of handling around 12 million passengers annually, with future expansion plans aiming to increase capacity significantly. The successful turnaround trial brings the project one step closer to welcoming its first commercial passengers and establishing itself as one of India’s most important new aviation hubs.
