The Government of Punjab has launched a new transport service to improve long-distance travel for passengers going to and coming from the national capital. Under this initiative, five new luxury Volvo buses have been flagged off to operate between Indira Gandhi International Airport and the cities of Jalandhar and Ludhiana in Punjab.

The buses are part of the state transport service operated by Punbus. These new vehicles are designed as “Super Integral Coach” Volvo buses, offering better comfort, safety, and convenience for passengers, especially for international travellers and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).

The flag-off ceremony was done by Punjab Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. Speaking at the event, he said that the new service is aimed at making travel easier for people who frequently fly through Delhi Airport. He added that the government wants to provide safe, affordable, and high-quality transport to the public.

According to the minister, this new bus service will be especially helpful for passengers travelling from Punjab to international destinations. Many NRIs from Punjab travel through Delhi Airport, and this service will allow them to reach the airport directly from major cities like Jalandhar and Ludhiana without facing travel difficulties or relying on private transport.

The minister also said that this initiative will help reduce the influence of private transport operators, which the government has referred to as the “transport mafia.” He claimed that the new government-run services will ensure fair pricing and better regulation in the transport sector.

This project is part of a larger plan by the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The government has been focusing on improving public transport systems and increasing the number of modern buses in the state fleet.

Officials also announced that Punjab’s transport department is planning to add a total of 15 new Super Integral Coach buses to the Punbus fleet in the coming months. These buses will further strengthen connectivity between Punjab and major transport hubs like Delhi Airport.

Passengers using this service can expect improved travel comfort compared to regular buses. The Volvo coaches are equipped with better seating, air-conditioning, and safety features, making long-distance travel more comfortable, especially for night journeys.

The new route is expected to benefit thousands of passengers every month, including students, workers, tourists, and NRIs. It will also help reduce dependence on private taxis and other costly travel options between Punjab and Delhi.

Officials believe that this initiative will improve public confidence in government transport services and encourage more people to choose buses for long-distance travel.

With this step, Punjab is aiming to modernize its public transport system while making airport connectivity smoother and more reliable for passengers across the state.
