The land acquisition process for the proposed Purandar Airport in Maharashtra has entered its final stage. The district administration has made it clear that there will be no further extension for landowners to submit their consent for the project.
The third and final extension for submitting consent documents ended on August 31, 2026. According to the district administration, around 94% of eligible landowners have agreed to the acquisition. The administration will now move ahead with the compulsory acquisition of the remaining six per cent of land from owners who have not given their consent.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi said that the final deadline had expired and no further extension would be provided. He said the consent received for 94% of the land would allow the acquisition process covering more than 1,150 hectares to move forward. The remaining land will be acquired through the prescribed legal process.
Around 1,216 hectares of land have been identified for the proposed airport in seven villages of Purandar taluka. These villages are Udachiwadi, Pargaon, Khanawadi, Munjewadi, Kumbharvalan, Ekhatpur and Vanpuri.
The state government has announced a compensation package of ₹1.51 crore per acre for the land being acquired. Landowners will also receive double compensation for trees and wells located on their land. In addition, they will receive developed land equivalent to 10% of the compensation amount.
Officials believe that these compensation benefits have helped increase the level of consent among landowners. Around 94% of the landowners from the seven villages have agreed to the acquisition.
The government has already started making compensation payments to eligible landowners. Officials said that more than 60% of eligible landowners have received their compensation directly in their bank accounts.
The Maharashtra government has transferred more than ₹1,500 crore to the district administration for the land acquisition process. Officials are currently checking ownership documents and affidavits before releasing payments to the remaining eligible landowners.
Some families had faced difficulties in completing the consent process because of ownership disputes and documentation issues. In some cases, matters were also pending before courts. To give such landowners additional time, the district administration had already provided three extensions.
With the final deadline now over, the administration will begin the compulsory acquisition process for the remaining six per cent of land. This process will be carried out according to the prescribed legal procedure.
The completion of land acquisition is an important step for the proposed Purandar Airport. Once the land-related process moves forward, the government and concerned agencies can focus on the next stages of the airport project.
The high consent rate of 94% is being seen as a significant development for the project. With most landowners agreeing to the acquisition and compensation payments already underway, the administration is now working to complete the remaining formalities and acquire the pending land.
