A hoax bomb threat on an IndiGo flight bound for Ahmedabad created a major security scare at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru. Airport authorities immediately activated emergency safety procedures after a handwritten note claiming there was a bomb was found inside the aircraft. The incident took place on Thursday evening on IndiGo flight 6E-6423, which was scheduled to depart from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad at 8:00 p.mAccording to police, the security alert began when a handwritten note was discovered inside the aircraft’s forward lavatory about 25 minutes before take-off.
The note reportedly read:
“Don’t go. Bomb Hai! Please.”
As soon as the message was found, the cabin crew informed airport authorities and security personnel. Following standard aviation safety procedures, the aircraft was immediately isolated for inspection.Airport security agencies quickly launched a comprehensive search of the aircraft. Bomb detection teams, security personnel, and other emergency response units carefully inspected the entire aircraft, including the passenger cabin, cargo hold, overhead compartments, and lavatories.
After completing the search, officials confirmed that no bomb, explosive device, or suspicious material was found on board. Authorities later declared the threat to be a hoax.Although the aircraft was found to be safe, the incident caused delays and operational disruption at the airport as security checks had to be completed before any further action could be taken.
Following the incident, IndiGo filed an official complaint with the airport police. Last month, an IndiGo flight carrying around 180 passengers from Lucknow to Delhi was also delayed after a bomb threat was discovered. In that case, the word “bomb” was written on a tissue paper found inside one of the aircraft’s lavatories.
The Lucknow flight was preparing for departure when the note was found. Authorities immediately stopped the aircraft from taking off and carried out a complete security inspection. Like the Bengaluru incident, no explosive device was found, and the threat was later declared false.
False bomb threats have become a serious concern for airlines and airport authorities because they cause flight delays, increase operational costs, and create fear among passengers. Every security alert requires the deployment of multiple agencies, including airport security staff, bomb disposal squads, police, and aviation authorities. Even when no danger exists, these operations consume significant time and resources.
Authorities have warned that individuals responsible for making hoax bomb threats can face strict legal action under Indian law. Such offences may result in criminal charges, imprisonment, and financial penalties because they endanger public safety and disrupt essential aviation services.
