Bomb Threat Delays IndiGo Flight from Chennai to Goa by Five Hours

Indigo News
An IndiGo flight from Chennai to Goa was delayed by nearly five hours on Monday evening after a bomb threat triggered security checks at Chennai airport. All passengers were asked to leave the aircraft while security personnel carried out an inspection.
The flight, numbered 6E588, was scheduled to depart at 5:40 pm on October 19. Following the threat, the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) met and classified the alert as specific at 6:05 pm, prompting authorities to move the aircraft to a designated isolation bay.
Passengers were deboarded by 6:55 pm as security teams began the required procedures, including an anti-sabotage check. The aircraft remained under security inspection while authorities worked to establish whether there was any danger.
According to Chennai airport authorities, the bomb threat response was called off at 9:20 pm after the security checks were completed. The aircraft was subsequently handed back to IndiGo for flight operations.
The flight was expected to depart for Goa at 10:30 pm, almost five hours after its original departure time. The delay affected passengers travelling between Chennai and Goa, although no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
Authorities have not released details about who made the threat or how it was received. Further information about the source of the alert was not immediately available.
The incident led to precautionary security measures at the airport, including the separation of the aircraft from regular operations during the inspection. Such checks are carried out following bomb threats to allow security personnel to examine the aircraft before it is cleared for departure.
The aircraft was returned to the airline after the security response ended, allowing preparations for the delayed journey to continue.
