Trichy Airport News: MP Seeks Alternative Roads for 3 Villages Near Expansion

Trichy Airport News
Trichy MP Durai Vaiko has asked the district administration to find alternative roads for three villages near Trichy airport. Some village roads are likely to be closed because of the airport’s expansion project. He made the request on Wednesday.
About 99 percent of the land needed for the expansion has been acquired by the state government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). With the project moving ahead, the closure of some existing village roads has become a concern for people living nearby.
The MP said residents of Keezhakurichi, Nathamadipatti and Mudukkupatti are worried that their access to Trichy may be cut off. For many villagers, these roads are used every day to reach work, schools, hospitals and markets. Losing them without a replacement could make daily life much harder.
Durai Vaiko has asked District Collector Pratik Tayal to prepare a proposal to approach the defence ministry. The aim is to develop an alternative road on defence land that has been acquired. The MP said this would ensure better connectivity for the villagers.
A separate request has already been sent to the Union civil aviation ministry, the MP said. It asks for a subway or underpass so that residents can reach Keezhakurichi, which is located behind the airport. An underpass would let people travel safely without crossing airport land.
The airport’s runway lies right next to the Trichy-Pudukottai National Highway. This is one reason why road connectivity needs careful planning as the expansion goes ahead.
The villagers now wait to see whether the district administration and the central ministries act on the requests. Proper alternative roads and an underpass would help the three villages stay connected to Trichy while the airport grows.
