Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and invited him to inaugurate the newly developed Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport (ASR Airport) at Bhogapuram on August 1, 2026. The meeting took place on Wednesday, where both leaders discussed important issues related to Andhra Pradesh and national development.
The upcoming Bhogapuram airport has been named after legendary freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju and is expected to become a major growth centre for North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister Naidu said that the airport is not only a tribute to Alluri Sitarama Raju’s contribution to India’s freedom movement but will also work as a strategic infrastructure project to improve connectivity and economic development in the region.
During his meeting with Prime Minister Modi, CM Naidu also introduced Vizianagaram MP Kalisetti Appalanaidu to the Prime Minister. Modi appreciated the MP’s practice of travelling to Parliament on a bicycle, which reflects an environmentally friendly approach.
The two leaders also discussed several political and developmental matters concerning both Andhra Pradesh and the country. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the State and the Centre and accelerating important projects in Andhra Pradesh.
During his visit to the national capital, Chief Minister Naidu also met several Union Ministers, including CR Patil, Piyush Goyal, and Manohar Lal Khattar. Discussions were held on key projects such as the Polavaram irrigation project, Jal Jeevan Mission, and urban infrastructure development initiatives.
Meanwhile, preparations for the grand inauguration ceremony of Bhogapuram International Airport are progressing rapidly. A high-level review meeting was conducted at the Andhra Pradesh Secretariat in Velagapudi to coordinate arrangements for the August 1 event.
Ministers, senior government officials, and district administrations from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Alluri Sitarama Raju, and Parvathipuram Manyam districts participated in the meeting. Officials reviewed important arrangements, including crowd management, transportation facilities, parking arrangements, security measures, and catering services for the inauguration programme.
The Bhogapuram International Airport is expected to play an important role in improving air connectivity in Andhra Pradesh. The airport will support tourism, trade, business activities, and industrial growth in the coastal region. With modern facilities and improved infrastructure, it is expected to handle increasing passenger demand in the coming years.
The inauguration of the ASR International Airport on August 1 will mark a major milestone in Andhra Pradesh’s aviation sector. The project is expected to bring new opportunities for employment, investment, and regional development while strengthening the state’s position on India’s aviation map.
