Firefly Extends Singapore–Subang Flight Cancellations to October 16 Amid Haze Concerns

Malaysia’s Firefly has extended flight cancellations between Singapore’s Seletar Airport and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, near Kuala Lumpur, until October 16 due to persistent haze and weather conditions.
The airline had initially cancelled services on the route from October 10 to 12 before extending the suspension until October 14. The latest extension affects flights scheduled for October 15 and 16, according to a notice published by Firefly.
The cancellations cover multiple daily services in both directions, including flights FY3122, FY3124, FY3126, FY3128, FY3130 and FY3132 from Subang to Seletar. Return services, including FY3123, FY3125, FY3127, FY3129 and FY3131, are also affected. Flight FY3144 on October 15 and FY3133 on October 16 are among the other cancelled services.
Firefly said affected passengers would be transferred to available Malaysia Airlines flights between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, where seats are available. Passengers who do not wish to take the alternative flights can opt for a full refund.
The disruption comes as smoke from forest fires in Indonesia continues to affect air quality across parts of Southeast Asia, including Singapore and Malaysia. Haze has reduced visibility in the region, raising concerns about safe aircraft operations.
Singapore’s National Environment Agency reported that the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index reached 192 in the central region on October 9, approaching the very unhealthy category, which begins at 201. On October 14, the one-hour PM2.5 reading in western Singapore reached 288 at 3pm, marking a new high for the year.
Singapore’s Civil Aviation Authority and Changi Airport Group have said that Changi and Seletar airports remain operational. However, some flights have been diverted as a precaution because of poor visibility.
Authorities are monitoring conditions as the haze persists. Travellers scheduled to fly between Singapore and Subang should check their flight status with the airline before heading to the airport.
Firefly has described the cancellations as a proactive safety measure in response to the prevailing weather and haze conditions.
